On Thursday I made this fabulous pattern up in a lovely 100% pure wool fabric from Fabrics Galore. It is designed to be made from felted fabrics such as boiled wool, this is a form of felted wool – very blanket like.
Just in case it does frey I have stitched a regular stich close to the edge to stop any freying, although I think it may well look rather lovely with a slightly fluffed edge.
Decided to cut the pockets on the bias and like the detail, also haven’t put any buttonholes in, made a belt instead.
Made the coat in a few hours, think the cutting took the longest, simply as I wanted all the checks to match up. Should have accounted for this when buying fabric, but got the coat out of the original 2.3m. So pleased with the fabric matching – taking my time there really helped.
Have already started to wear it and planning another in boiled wool. If you’ve never made a coat it is brilliant pattern to start with, great instructions and very quick to make.
Have plans this weekend to finish a few more projects for the Christmas Gift Fair | Chiswick. What will you be sewing?
